The streets are paved
Not in gold but mold
A mere frivolous monsoon shower
Creates a seemingly Katrina
Roads flooded and sewers blocked
And the mold glistens when it is over
And dry.
Is that bureaucrat engineering?
Or engineers administering?
Will digging and burrowing
ever end here?
Concrete blocks bought at price
Divide the road into ugly halves
It is not us, it is not them either
It is we, all of us: FULLY
It is we who tolerate roads and inroads
Unplanned and unheeded
Into minds and conscience eroded
Ugliest sight on earth
Sacrilegious act unto the towns and cities
There is nothing left to blame
For the un-awakened don’t care day or night
(Monsoon 2008)
